Karan Dhar and Saarthak Gupta, both from Class XI, attended the Round Square International Conference 2017 held in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 30 to October 5. This annual event was hosted jointly by three RS member schools in the city, namely, St George's Grammar School, St Cyprian's School and Bridge House School. School RS Rep Sonia Thakur and CCE Coordinator Shobna Sethi accompanied the students as adult delegates to the Conference.
The Conference began with an impressive opening ceremony on Oct 1 in which member schools from all over the world made their presence felt through the flag bearers of their schools on stage and holding their school flags with pride. His Majesty King Constantine of Greece, President and Patron of Round Square and Queen Anne-Maria graced the ceremony with their presence. In her inaugural welcome speech, RS CEO Rachael Westgarth welcomed all the delegates to the Conference and wished them well during their stay. The host schools presented a rich cultural programme consisting of songs and dances that enthralled the audience.
In the course of 5 days long conference, delegates attended numerous sessions conducted by experts invited to the Conference. All focused on the 6 pillars of Round Square with special emphasis on Round Square Discovery Framework (RSDF) and its relevance to member schools. Delegates also hiked on the famed Table Mountain of Cape Town and enjoyed a long adventure day. They also visited the community service locations short-listed by host schools and took part in service activities.
The Conference ended on October 5 with a short concluding ceremony followed by an address by Rod Fraser, Chairman of the Round Square.
Kcean delegates returned home on October 6, fully satisfied with their experiences at the first ever Round Square International Conference.
