Five students of KC Public School in the age group of 14 to 16 attended the RS Regional Conference 2017 hosted by Singapore International School, Mumbai from Jan 26 to 29, 2017. They were Apoorvi Gupta, Isha Khurana, Ninaad Mahajan, Osheen Mahajan and Shourya Mahajan escorted by Mrs. Bindiya Sambyal. The theme of the Conference was ‘It’s in me: Expanding the Circle of Human Concern’. It was a great experience for all student delegates to gain insight into a wide range of community engagements taking place all over the world for finding sustainable solutions to common human problems.

The Conference began with an opening ceremony in which flags of participating schools were hoisted by respective flag bearers. It was followed by a keynote address by Anshu Gupta, Founder and CEO of the NGO ‘Goonj’. The other keynote speakers who addressed the delegates in the subsequent sessions of 3 days’ Conference were Robin Chaurasia, Founder of the NGO ‘Kranti’ engaged in welfare activities for the children of sex workers, Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of the Sulabh International, Sonam Wangchuk, Founder-Director of Students’ Educational & Cultural Movement in Ladakh, Brian Dawson, Former Director of RS and author of outdoor adventure programmes,Shehnab Sahin, Communications Head of Relief International(Jordan) working for Syrian refugee children, Mathew Spacie, Founder of Magic Bus NGO for slum children, Goutam Bhandari, Founder of Deshopriya Manobik Association working for equal rights for underprivileged women and children in West Bengal, Rushabh Turakhia of Kindness Initiative and Parnab Mukherjee, media activist working on relevant issues like autism. All speakers focused on cultural integrity, leadership, sincerity and community service. They believed that change does not occur in isolation. One person’s transformation is sustained by that of another and only by educating young minds, hearts and souls.

All keynote addresses were followed by barazza sessions for students in which they discussed their own thoughts stemming from listening to the eminent keynote speakers. Rikka sessions for teachers were also held in which general issues related to community service were discussed in detail.
